In the shop - Metallic Hematite

It's time for the new industrial revolution...

I love the look and feel of Hematite - shiny, metallic, liquid steel like qualities
that provide an industrial edge to any jewelry piece.

Metallic is currently trending on Etsy and the 'Fashion World' but
at GRIMM & GRETE this look is always trending!

Hope everyone is having a smashing Saturday.

Sneak Peak For The Week

I hope you've all been well my friends. I was paid a visit last week by a narly head cold
who decided to stay awhile and make my days and nights miserable. When she finally left I was
able to spend a little time strangely enough updating my  Pinterest  account and making a few
new items for the shop.

I love the simple sexiness of this necklace.  It took me a while to find the right combination
of charms, but I'm really happy with this end result.  It's the new "troika charm necklace" and
I love it!!  Should be in the shop tomorrow with fingers crossed.

Last night was spent with Edward Cullen; Twilight Saga - New Moon was on telly; oh Edward♥
There was also a kick a** episode of "the good wife" love that show!!

Hope you are all taking care of each other.
Have a mellow Monday.

A Gift Guide From The Grumpy Prince

I asked my Grumpy Prince to do a Valentines list of things he might consider getting me
from Etsy and this is what he came up with.
Pretty good what do you think?

Wood Sign (this is real romantic - chicks dig that): here
'Tiny Heart' Pendant Necklace (very simple - a classic Valentine's gift): here
'Be My Valentine' Friendship Bracelet (subtle and makes the point): here
Valentine's Day Card (you need one of these to go with your gift - or so I'm told): here
Lingerie (this is the gift that keeps on giving...): here

I've had such a surge of creative energy over that last few days that
I've just been making items for the shop non-stop.
It's been awesome!!

Hope you are having a wishy-washy Wednesday!!

In the Shop - Bijou Leather Tassel Charm Necklace!!

Bijou our charm necklace for the holiday season hit the shop shelves this weekend.  The original design has been altered since their 'sneak peek' post a couple of weeks ago. Originally this charm necklace was supposed to be a cluster of gems and stones. However, it was all too delicate so I added the tassel and took away some of the gems and I loved how that one element changed the look and vibe of the necklace. But I didn't trust the thread material to hold up over time and I didn't like the way it was fraying. So I used a  gorgeous metallic gold/silver lambskin  leather to give the tassel more durability and it totally adds an eclectic vibe to the necklace.

The Bills are in town this weekend!!  I know you're asking "why aren't you at the game?" the answer is tixs were a small kings ransom..lol  Truth be told this season is a complete fluke, we had no idea the bills were planning on winning some games this season and would be so exciting to watch for a change.

Hope you're having a great weekend!!

Super Cool Knits!!!

My etsy friend and the artist behind the Etsy shop Wuglyees creates some of the coolest eco-friendly knits I've ever seen. She designs stylish and fashionable hats, scarves, slippers and the coolest jewelry.  I love the colour combinations and I think it's super cool how she integrates beads and metal findings into her jewellery collection.

Wuglyees (I call her by her shop name, lol, but her name is Debbie) also has a great blog where she shares her talent for the written word through her poetry.  She creates a poem everyday to accompany her blog post, how cool is that!  I love the way she gets up, close and personal with her readers with a natural honesty and heart warming stories. Visit her wonderful blog here.

Hope everyone had a fulfilling weekend.

Our first summer weekend in the city was a major flop, the weather was just plain yucky! For me there is no middle ground; it either rains or it's sunny.  I don't operate well under cloudy skies, it's just too heavy for me.

The grumpy prince and I had a movie night on Saturday. No, we didn't leave the tower we ordered 'pay per view' and watched "The Adjustment Bureau".  I thought the concept was amazing, I really enjoyed it. The notion of chance, fate, and man's free will played out through a romance; come on....how fantastic is that?!!!

The eldest boy musketeer was invited to a bowling birthday party on Sunday.  The grumpy prince took our girl musketeer and they had their first papa and daughter bowling time together.  I stayed home and worked on some new shop items, while the youngest boy musketeer napped.

Wow, someone took a talking pill this morning, it must be due to the sunny skies...lol ;)

Hope Monday is kind to you.

Working on Wednesdays - 'Dyeing' Sterling Silver

I was in the middle of oxidizing some sterling silver findings (earwire, beads, chain etc.) and thought maybe I should take some pics for an entry. When I first started 'dyeing' my silver findings it was such a wacky process. I would send the kids off to play, open all the windows (-30 degrees, some winter mornings/evenings), put on rubber gloves, wrap my entire head with a scarf (barely exposing my eyes) and have the grumpy prince on stand-by with emergency services on speed dial.  After reading the warnings on the jar I felt like I needed to wear an asbestos suit.

I'm way more comfortable with the process now. To the point where I'm going to 'dye' my next batch at the dinner table while we're eating.

Here are some photos of my 'dyeing process'.

great end results.

Have a wonderstruck Wednesday!

crushing on - big, bold and fab!!!

Robin Basile and John Pape are the husband and wife dynamic duo behind basile and pape.  Together they design some of the most awesome and 'in your face' jewellery I've ever seen.

I had such a hard time selecting a few pieces for this entry, all of their jewellery is so fabulous!

In the Shop - Battered Luck Necklaces

My theory behind the 'battered luck' collection comes from my severe superstition around individual luck/fate.  About five years ago I thought it would be really cool to be able to read tarot cards. I had visions of tarot card readings at the tower so I bought a deck of cards and a 'tarot for dummies' book.

here are the cards still in the plastic!

I read the book and followed up with some research on the internet and thought this is going to be great! I'll be able to put any question out into the universe and have it answered by ME with MY cards.  Well my friends...it never happened! I never even opened the deck of cards! For some reason I got it into my head that by opening the cards, I would be tempting my fate and would change my luck.

mini & large battered luck necklace
We all experience luck of some kind throughout our lives.  Sometimes we are very aware of how lucky we are, but for the most part our small runs ins with luck go unnoticed. Every time luck graces us a notch is placed somewhere; sort of like dodging a bullet.  So all the dings and scratches I hammered into the horseshoe is a smile and a wink from lady luck and the cross is for added insurance ;)
