My theory behind the 'battered luck' collection comes from my severe superstition around individual luck/fate. About five years ago I thought it would be really cool to be able to read tarot cards. I had visions of tarot card readings at the tower so I bought a deck of cards and a 'tarot for dummies' book.
I read the book and followed up with some research on the internet and thought this is going to be great! I'll be able to put any question out into the universe and have it answered by ME with MY cards. Well my friends...it never happened! I never even opened the deck of cards! For some reason I got it into my head that by opening the cards, I would be tempting my fate and would change my luck.
We all experience luck of some kind throughout our lives. Sometimes we are very aware of how lucky we are, but for the most part our small runs ins with luck go unnoticed. Every time luck graces us a notch is placed somewhere; sort of like dodging a bullet. So all the dings and scratches I hammered into the horseshoe is a smile and a wink from lady luck and the cross is for added insurance ;)
